The PageScouter browser extension

Some pages will not open for a server. Cloudflare and Amazon turn away anything that does not look like a person at a keyboard, and a page behind a login is private by design. The extension checks those pages from your browser, in your own session, so PageScouter can watch them without ever holding your password.

First, an account

The extension captures pages into a PageScouter workspace, so it has nothing to connect to until you have one. PageScouter is in private beta and accounts are opened by hand right now — email support@pagescouter.com and we will set one up.

Install it

The store listing is still in review. Email support@pagescouter.com and we will send you the build directly — it takes about a minute to install and works exactly as it will from the store.

Then connect it

  1. Click the PageScouter icon in your browser toolbar.
  2. Enter your PageScouter address — https://app.pagescouter.com.
  3. Choose Log in with PageScouter. A PageScouter window opens, names the workspace you are connecting, and asks you to approve. Nothing to copy or paste.

What it does once it is on

  • Adds the page you are looking at. One click on any page — including one you had to log in to reach.
  • Keeps those pages current. When a monitor can only be reached from your browser, the extension checks it on schedule while that browser is open, and PageScouter alerts you as usual.
  • Asks before touching a site. No site access is granted at install. The extension requests the specific origins of your own monitors, when you turn scheduled capture on.

Captured content goes to this PageScouter server and nowhere else. Read the extension privacy policy.

Do I need it?

Mostly, no. PageScouter checks the great majority of pages from its own servers, and those monitors keep running whether or not you ever install this. The extension is for the pages that refuse a server — and when one of your monitors hits that wall, PageScouter says so on the monitor itself rather than leaving you to guess.
